Bognor Crowned Champions In Thrilling Finale
Littlehampton Tigersharks (7) vs. Bognor Barracudas (7)
19.05.2018 Game 6 DMWP 13 & Under League
The first ever Sussex under 13s league came down to a winner takes all deciding game that kept the crowd on tenterhooks right until the dying seconds of the match.
The game was even throughout with Littlehampton and Bognor exchanging goals early in the game through their leading marksmen, Owen Halligan (Bognor) and Hope Waite Jones (Littlehampton).
The game would continue in the same vein throughout the middle period but it would be Bognor who gained the upper hand as they made full use of attacking the deep end in the third quarter to pull ahead with more goals from Halligan and the league’s third leading scorer Tristan Roderick. Littlehampton kept in the game though, and scored worked goals through Sydney Beyer and Lily Dalimore.
Bognor would lead by one going into the final period and needed two goals to the secure the title. Hope Waite- Jones popped up again with little over two minutes to go, firing an accurate shot low into the bottom corner to make it seven-all. Both teams were urged on by a buoyant crowd, and a counter attack from Bognor that would have sealed the title was quelled. Littlehampton launched one more desperate attack…
The ball was moved quickly and in space down the middle was eight year old Harvey Tester, Tester received the ball and was furiously swimming towards the goal, picking up the ball well, under heavy pressure and will time ebbing away, he launched it goal wards…seconds turned into minutes, minutes to hours and then, saved! Bognor had held on! What a fantastic match it was though, well done to all involved!
