Littlehampton Tigersharks (10) vs. Shoreham Stingrays (4)

Brave Shoreham Downed In Final Quarter

Littlehampton Tigersharks (10) vs. Shoreham Stingrays (4)

12.05.2018  Game 5 DMWP 13 & Under League

In a scintillating match, Littlehampton Tigersharks set up a winner takes all final game with Bognor, but Shoreham came away with their heads held high.

Littlehampton won the toss and elected to attack the shallow end first, this led to a furiously paced first quarter with Shoreham’s defence standing strong and Littlehampton equally as resilient as they defended the deep end.

The second quarter started in much the same fashion, with Shoreham pressing forward attacking the deep and scoring two goals via Captain Alex Stepney- Warburton and a third via Idris Baker. Co-Captain Hope Waite-Jones pulled one back for Shoreham to take the sting out of Shoreham’s tail and set up a game defining final quarter.

Littlehampton started the third quarter well and began to turn the screw on Shoreham, pulling back to 3 – 3 through Hope Waite-Jones and Florence Waite-Jones. But Shoreham weren’t done yet, again pulling ahead with a cool, calm and collected finish from Tom Wood. More goals from Hope Waite-Jones and Isabel Cooke meant Littlehampton went into the final quarter leading 5-4. They had to hold on in order to earn a winner takes all game versus Bognor the following week.

Attacking the deep end, Littlehampton started to show why they are fighting for the title. Waite-Jones scored a flurry of goals to put the Tigersharks into a commanding lead. Shoreham battled on bravely and were unlucky not to pull goals back.

All in all it was a really close and competitive game and both teams deserved the crowd’s applause echoing round the arena on the final whistle.
